Our First Lasts

Since leaving Utah is inevitable at this point, I'm beginning to think about it quite a lot. We're so excited and we feel so blessed to have this opportunity... but how hard it is going to be to leave this place! We truly have the most wonderful friends anyone could ask for... and it's hard to imagine finding such great people to play games with or eat waffles or go shopping or do any of those fun things that friends do. I know, I know... I'm so silly to even be thinking about saying goodbye already! I guess it's like waiting to put up the Christmas tree... Once I start thinking about something... It's all I can think about. I think this all came about around Halloween when our friend made a comment about that being the last ward Halloween party we'd get to attend. Ever since then, Rob and I have joked about things being our "last" this or our "last" that. But as much as we joke about it, it's so true! The great thing about all of this is that I know everything will be great. I left California to attend BYU, and that was the most difficult time ever... saying goodbye to my parents and those dear and wonderful friends. I remember thinking that things would never be quite the same. And as we all know, that's exactly what happened. However, despite that void eventually being filled with new friends and new relationships with extended family members, those same great friends are still my same great friends, and my family is still my same great family. And though it's going to be rough and tough to go through that whole process again of saying goodbye and trying not to lose touch while branching out and meeting new people... at least I can relish these moments and enjoy sharing these "lasts" with our family and friends here in Utah. And so to commemorate our last Thanksgiving at Grandma MaryAnn's... Happy Thanksgiving to you, and may we all enjoy these moments... for these moments are our life!

do you think it will be your last thanksgiving at grandma's? she'll always be around, cooking 90 lb. turkeys.
