Thanks for your comments. I actually hadn't finished reading until today so I waited to read your words of wisdom until now... didn't want to spoil anything. But that's the thing... As I read I really had most of the "surprises" figured out way before they happened. For example, all of the dreams Bella was having at the beginning of the book... uh... hello! Baby after baby after baby... of course she was going to get pregnant. The girl should have figured, practically all of her dreams have come true in some form or another. The one thing that I think truly "surprised" me was the imprinting on Renesnenmenese (or whatever her name is....) only because Jacob and Leah became so close I thought he would for sure imprint on her. I couldn't remember if imprinting had to take place the very first time you saw someone, and I don't have my other books with me to use as references since all of my belongings are in a storage unit in Vermont for the month, but I couldn't understand why else we had a whole section about Jacob and his new relationship with Miss Leah.
Now onto more important things... I too am a "grown up" and I would have enjoyed a few more, or many more, details. My question has and always will be... If vampires have no blood... then how does it... become that way... in the first place... Catch my drift?? And once it does... does it just stay... like that?? I did enjoy Emmitt's humor on the topic and Edward's description of what it was like for all of them at the beginning. Something to the effect, "When you don't sleep at night, it leaves a lot of time for other activities." Hilarious.
And why oh why not finish off the Volturi completely? My thought... Renesmesnenae (or whatever her name is...) I think Stephenie has kept that door open for future investigation. I think that is why we had the chapter about Jacob. I think that is why the kid from the Amazon was so interested in her. I think that is why Bella and Edward live "happily ever after"... so that we can say goodbye to them and learn more about their daughter's life in the future, instead of still being so caught up in their love story, wondering where they are the whole time like we wondered about Edward in New Moon. She closed that door but opened another. And we need to Volturi to act as the villains in whatever adventures Miss Cullen has.
And finally, now don't think I'm crazy or anything, but I really feel like I've gotten to know these "characters" in past books. I know their likes, dislikes, reactions, facial expressions, thoughts on life and the hereafter... Why then did I feel like I didn't know them so often in this book?? I mean, there just seemed to be quite a few times when I thought to myself, "Wait a minute... this is Bella talking?" I just expected these friends of mine to have different reactions and thoughts and behaviors in some situations than they did.
One more thing... I think I never grew entirely fond of the baby because of the evil way she was portrayed in Bella's tummy. I've got a baby in mine, and the whole part about chewing its way out of the womb... are you kidding me? Not something a pregnant woman wants to think about. I just had a hard time envisioning Renenseemenaeme (or whatever her name is...) as a cute little girl after all the drama, because she was made out to be such a crazy, bloodthirsty vampire child. I picture her as one of those ugly Marie Osmond baby dolls. Poor kid.
I loved this saga. I put off finishing the book for days because, actually, I was sad to see it end. I'll be honest, I put the book down a few times out of boredom, slight boredom, but boredom nonetheless. Eventually it triggered my interest again and well, I have never been good at goodbyes. Can you genuinely be sad that it's time to say goodbye to characters in a book? Well, I am. I'm happy they are happy.
I'm happy Bella is with the love of her life, because I know I'm with mine.
(Pssst, did I mention Rob's middle name is Edward?)
I'm sure Rob and all my brother-in-laws will be celebrating the conclusion to this saga in some way or another. But just for the record... Rob gave me Twilight as a gift before I had ever even heard about it. So you can all blame him... I know I do.

WOW! What a well written post! You were much more mellow in your assessment than I was. I'm soooooooo glad to hear that you felt the characters were different. I had such a difficult time with the book! Yeah, I was happy with how it ended, but it was nothing like I expected. You should read my post about it and see if you have any insights to some of my issues with the book. BTW, HOW ARE YOU FEELING?!
Hey Melissa,
I saw your blog on Jamy's so I thought Id take a look. Hope you dont mind. I totally agree with Breaking Dawn, I felt a little disappointed after I finished the book, because the storys over now. Well as far as we know. Congrats on your pregnancy too! When are you due?

Ah, Melis, you summed it up well.
. . . and now I don't have to read the book at all! Thanks for the sum.
You really put alot of thought into this book, didn't you????? Especially the 'having no blood' thing :) I really enjoyed the whole series, and I am with you, I had no idea Jacob would imprint on Nessie. Her dreams were about a boy!!!!! Can't wait until the movie comes out. Congrats on the pregnancy, best of luck.

Well said Melissa! I was cracking up about your interest in all the details! I was also curious about how it all worked... I guess we can use our imagination!
I hope all is well! Are you getting big? I am feeling huge! I did find out the other day that we are having a girl... or at least their best guess is that it is a girl!
Take care.
